Ranunculaceae (buttercup)

Ranunculaceae (the buttercup family) includes more than thirty species native to Wisconsin, nearly all herbaceous (though Clematis is woody). Many of these species produce seeds with underdeveloped embryos (linear-underdeveloped and rudimentary types) that must grow further before the radicle emerges (i.e., the seeds have morphological or morphophysiological dormancy).
